Parenting 101 Pt. 1

Have you heard the saying: "It takes a village to raise a child."

Well, I am afraid that that saying is just an excuse... its false... it actually takes good parents to raise a child.

We are not born mothers or fathers... many times I hear people say.... "I was born to be a mom." I often think.... all of us have the capabilities to have children but a few of us are fathers and mothers... We all have that misconception.

Parenthood is learned.... we are not born with it.

If you have children or are planning to have children.... pick up a book. Learn from it..... make it your bible.... a book I highly recomend is "Baby Wise" from the Ezzo's. Also, any book from James Dobson.

Seek help, join a small group. Parenting is not an easy task specially if you have no idea on what you are doing.... I am not saying that I have all the answers but when I am in doubt, it makes me a better father to look for a solution by seeking counsel not by trying to figure it out.

We have either read or owned every parenting book written by James Dobson! Parenting is tuff...We put fourth our best efforts and ask for help and still make mistakes! Here are some musts for our family:

We Pray outloud over our children not just for them!

We focus more on the why than the what....Motives, attitudes, the condition of the heart is far more important to us than the outward behaviour or actions. When these are in line with Christ the behaviour takes care of itself!

We pray and work to help our children discover who God has created them to be. How He has crafted them with skills, gifts, talents and encourage them to pursue and strengthen these areas instead of trying to mold them into who we think they should be.

We make mistakes all the time!! Some We cry over!! We ask for forgiveness! From both God and our children.
    Books we love:
    With all their heart
    Christine Yount
    The New Hide or Seek
    James Dobson
    Key to your child's heart
    Gary Smalley
    Five Love languages of children
    Gary Chapman
    Parentng isn't for cowards
    James Dobson
Pray for us! God's grace often covers our mistakes!
